Do I need to have an examination before I get an adjustment?
Yes. There are three main reasons I require an examination before I will adjust someone. First, to make sure the adjustment is going to be safe and not cause any harm to you. Second, to figure out exactly what is going on with your body so that I can obtain a good clinical assessment to advise and care for you properly. And lastly, because the Colorado State Board of Chiropractic Examiners requires it and would shut me down if I failed to provide the basic standard of care they have set forth.
Do I need to have x-rays taken before I get an adjustment?
No. The clinical protocols that I use in my office do not rely on x-ray analysis. The only time that I would require x-rays is if I suspect a fracture, dislocation, or cancer in the bones and joints of your body. In those very rare instances, I would recommend x-rays and a medical clearance before proceeding with any adjustments.
How many adjustments will it take before I begin to notice improvement?
Hopefully 1-2 adjustments, but it could take 10-12 adjustments in some instances. It all depends on your age, your specific problem, the stability of your spine, and your lifestyle. Typically, after performing a thorough examination and seeing your response to your first adjustment, I can obtain a good idea as to what you can expect.
Once my problem is corrected, will I have to continue with any type of maintenance care?
That choice will be up to you. We have some patients who get adjusted once a week, some every two weeks and some patients who get adjusted every month. We also have many patients who get adjusted on an as needed basis. Whatever you choose to do, we will support you in your decision.
I’m terrified to have may neck and back “cracked”, is there any other way that you can adjust the spine without doing that?
Absolutely! Most people associate chiropractic care with the traditional hands-on adjustments that do cause those popping and clicking sounds. But, there are many other light force methods that are equally, if not more, effective at adjusting the spine without the popping and clicking sounds. The method I use, in addition to the traditional hand-on adjustment, is called an activator adjustment. The activator adjustment is used with a small hand held percussion instrument that utilizes speed over force. It is the first adjusting tool in our profession that took the “crack” out of chiropractic.
Is there a minimum or maximum age requirement before a person can receive chiropractic care?
As long as you are out of the womb and before you hit the tomb, anyone with a spine can receive a chiropractic adjustment. And yes, we do adjust newborns and children. Why, you ask? Curl yourself in a ball and sit in your coziest recliner for nine months and see how lined up and balanced your spine is when you finally get up. Also children suffer from a variety of problems that can be traced back to vertebral subluxations. These include infantile colic, ear infections, asthma, and bedwetting, just to name a few.
Can you adjust someone who has severe arthritis, osteoporosis, or has had spinal fusion surgery?
Yes, yes, and yes. Having arthritis, osteoporosis, or fused spinal segments is an indication of a very delicate and unstable spine. The chances of having recurring vertebral subluxation in people with these issues are far greater that in people who don’t have these issues. Hence, the need for chiropractic care is even greater. In addressing these issues, caution must be taken though. I don’t advise traditional hand-on adjustments because the possible risk of injury is greater. The only way I would adjust someone with one of these issues is with a light force adjusting instrument. Using an adjusting instrument provides the same benefits as the traditional hands-on adjustment without having to worry about the risk of injury.
Do adjustments hurt?
In most instances no. But, if there is a lot of swelling or tissue damage in and around the joint to be adjusted, it may sting a little. In those instances, I will typically recommend being adjusted with a light force adjusting instrument to avoid the discomfort until the swelling and tissue damage has subsided.
How long does each appointment take?
Your first appointment at our office usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour. After that, appointment times average about 5-10 minutes. I know your time is valuable, and I have designed a scheduling system that minimizes wait times and allows you to receive quality care quickly and efficiently
Why should I choose your office over other chiropractic offices in the area?
Of all the professions out there today, it is my opinion that there are no more honest, caring, and compassionate people than chiropractors. Now there a few bad apples out there, but for the most part, any chiropractor you go to is going to give you a great experience. However, there are a few qualities that I feel set my office apart from other chiropractic offices in the Greater Denver Area. These include: providing personalized care for both children and adults, utilizing non x-ray dependant treatment protocols, offering both traditional hands-on and advanced instrument assisted adjusting techniques, making available same day appointments, providing convenient hours with minimal wait times, offering affordable rates, and accepting most insurance plans and polices.
